i'm never where you are

during a cab ride home, manong taxi driver made my ears bleed by blasting the tagalog version of Rihanna's Umbrella in his crabby stereo system as if the over-bearing bass and the crackling static noise emanating from his cockroach infested speakers weren't torture enough. by the way, manong taxi driver had the audacity to say "you're so kuripot 'mam" (translation: you're such a cheapskate 'mam) at the end of my cab ride and thus giving me the right to call his stereo crabby and his speakers roach infested. whatever-major-loser.

anyway, back to my rant. seriously, hearing someone impersonate Rihanna's chicken-like singing (according to Amy) to the words "di ka mababasa ng ulan, di na, di na, hindi, hindi, hindi" made me want to open the cab door and throw myself onto on-coming traffic. what the fuck?

i know i'm not the most nationalistic person in the world (since i once said that the word 'kayumangi' was thought of because it sounds like "kayo, monkeys") but i'm not demeaning the Filipino language in any way. i just think that there are some songs that should never be translated; but of course no one gives a rat's ass what i think because the rest of the masses who indulge in ASAP are too caught up in the let's-translate-every-english-song-into-tagalog-because-we-are-so-full-of-pinoy-pride craze and cheered Kimerald on by waving their stupid balloons as the love-birds butchered another translated version which goes "payong, payong eh eh eh, sumilong ka sa payong ko." seriously?!

i don't know which is worse, the translated version of Umbrella(click) or Kimerald(click).

but because i got so inspired by this translation craze, i decided to translate a crowd favorite, Hawak-Kamay(click), to English just to prove my point (just a fact, i translated the chorus long ago with the help of the ex-bf). no offense to miss Yeng Constant-melody-ino, but seriously, while her voice may be all nice and pseudo-husky, all her songs sound alike. it's as if she only has one melody in her head - what a disappointment.
"Hawak-Kamay"

sometimes you may feel that your problems are so heavy
sometimes you'll have a hard time that you'll say "i cannot go on"
just look up to the heavens
there might be something for you to hold on to
or why don't you call me
cause just so you know, any time

chorus:
hold my hand
i will never leave you in this journey
in this world with no guarantees(?)
hold my hand
i will never let you go in this journey
in this world of nothingness(?)

[shall end here, tagalog gives me a headache]
i know my translation is horrendous but at least it matches the melody (yes, i was singing it). also, i would grab my guitar and record this version on my computer just for laughs but since i am a sloth, i won't do it.

finally watched Dark Knight. nicely done Heath, you made Joker rather adorable. i think i may even be over my fear of clowns because of you. and even though i could never understand the lure of batman due to my batman-phobia induced by Jack's creepy portrayal of Joker, i want to watch Dark Knight again just so i can point and say 'ewwww...gross!' when Mr. Harvey gets all two-faced.
